Sunrise ... Sunset ... Where do the years go? The change in the business practices of insurance agencies in the 90's has been staggering. If an agency hasn't changed the way they do business, they are out of business today. That is where your users groups have stepped to the plate. You are not in this alone, and the past few years have really proven how valuable it is to belong to a strong network of your peers. Your fellow users can help you and your agency navigate through the challenges of change.

Thus the theme for the 1998 Delphi TEAM of users Annual Education Conference, the "Challenge of Change". Our vendor, Delphi Information Systems, is still evolving and changing. Every day we hear of new partnerships and new offices opening - encouraging news from "the new Delphi"! They are eager to show the 500+ users in attendance at this conference their strategies for helping us expand our agencies in the years to come.

The education this year is not for the light hearted. With the utilization and expansion of the Internet, the insurance industry has had entire new horizons open up. Sessions like Internet/Intranet/Extranet, Electronic Commerce and Building a World Class Website will introduce some of the more sophisticated applications of the net. System specific workshops will allow users to brush up on the technology they still have in their offices - and may have for some time to come!

New offerings this year are business-related Microsoft classes presented by The Learning Authority. These classes are offered the day before the conference at a nominal extra charge and are not related to insurance. They will provide you instruction on powerful MS applications that can help you communicate and function in today’s action-packed business climate.

A welcome to New Orleans Mardi Gras night, a Mississippi Riverboat Dinner Cruise aboard the beautiful Natchex Steamboat and a closing Saturday brunch have been planned for you to unwind after those classes. We have changed the flow of the conference by opening the week with a wild evening in the Solutions Showcase, adding extra 'concentration' time in the Showcase on Friday morning, having the final dinner cruise on Friday evening, and wrapping up the conference with a brunch on Saturday at noon to allow you exploration time on your own in New Orleans.

This conference is not like the many industry conferences you are invited to each year. This is your conference, and the conference of those on your agency management systems. Your fellow users are facing the same decisions and challenges you are facing today in the insurance industry. Come prepared to share and to be shared with. About Dan ...

Dan has been President and CEO of IVANS, Inc. since 1995. Previously, he held the position of President and CEO of Anthem Casualty Insurance. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors, President and CEO of the Shelby Insurance Group, and was Executive VP-Field Operations for Crum and Forster.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of Allegheny Corporation and a trustee of the Griffith Foundation for Insurance Education. He is also a member of the education committee of the Quality Insurance Congress. We are indeed fortunate to have Dan as our Keynote presenter in 1998!

6 Fraud and Internal Controls (E/A)

An article in Exchange magazine stated, "Corporate downsizing has created an environment rife with opportunities for fraud-fewer and more overburdened employees, flatter organizations with authority delegated to new staff levels, and ever more complex computer systems. Companies may not be admitting it but, not surprisingly, employee fraud is on the rise. " The general discussion will deal with controls suitable for automation and controls geared to insurance brokerages and agencies. It will provide an opportunity for group discussion of exposures, potential controls and actual experiences with employee fraud.

This session will introduce attendees to the concepts of data warehousing and data mining to help you assess the applicability and value to your operation. This interactive session is intended to get the group thinking about what could be rather than being limited by what is. As a group, we’ll put together the ideal agency/brokerage scenario without allowing our thoughts to bound by the limitations we know today. Once the ideal scenario is defined, we will discuss potential ideas on how to make it happen – innovative technology use, creative workflows, etc. Sometimes the greatest impact can come from the simplest change. Let’s see what happens when we put our combined experience and creativity in one room.

21 Year 2000 (E/A)

Don’t find yourself greeting Year 2000 confident that the problem is solved just because your agency management system is compliant. Learn what you need to know to truly be prepared. It isn’t just a software issue and no one, in any industry can avoid it. The good news for Delphi clients is that Delphi has already addressed the majority of Year 2000 software compliance issues with our legacy products, and all cd.solutions products are fully compliant. However, Delphi software solutions are not the only component of your technology which needs to be looked at when it comes to Year 2000 support. The travel time is approximately 30 minutes from New Orleans International Airport.
The two most convenient ways to get to the New Orleans Marriott are by:

Airport Shuttle at $10 each way.
